Hi, I hope you are very well, you just caught me with the Christmas decorations at school. We just set up the tree and have decorated it with balls, tinsel and some fun Christmas dolls that we bought last year at one of the Christmas markets in town.

Whenever I see the typical Christmas movies set in the United States, I love to see how they put a lot of effort into the lighting and how they compete to be the most illuminated or decorated neighborhood for this festive season.

I think that in Spain we also strive to improve every year and in Malaga, especially this year, we have surpassed ourselves and our students attest to this.

Last week we received a school group from Sofia (Bulgaria) who came with their teachers to do an intensive Spanish course with us.

As good hosts, we wanted to show them the city center and we confirmed that this year, Malaga can compete with the Rockefeller Center in New York. Here are some of the best plans to do in Malaga this Christmas in case they inspire you:

– Visit the Christmas markets: our favorite is the one located on Avenida de la Constitución, very close to the House of Culture. This is where we bought some of the ornaments for our school. In addition, as in our school we are going to do the Secret Santa, it may be the best opportunity to buy the gift.

– Local products fair: you know that in Malaga you can eat like nowhere else and if not, just ask our students who come to study Spanish in our school. If you are in town on December 11th, remember to visit the street market in the city center. You will be able to taste local Malaga products such as cheeses, oils, wines, mantecados and jams.

– Snacking on tejeringos and hot chocolate: at Casa Aranda, one of the most typical places in the city. Here you can enjoy the best churros in town, yum, yum, yum!

– See the botanical lights: if you are passionate about Christmas decorations like us, you will love this tour. It is a very special tour as this year it is set in the story of the Three Wise Men.

Without a doubt, our students are looking forward to the end of their classes to enjoy all these plans and many more.

For next week, we have prepared a big surprise for them. We are going to put a big *belén in the school. We can’t wait for you to see it!

You already know that learning Spanish in Malaga has many advantages and seeing the city with this special illumination and enjoying these great plans is wonderful. Without a doubt, all of this is part of the linguistic immersion that we offer at AIL and that we talk about in many blogs.

Do you dare to live an incredible Christmas with us?

See you next time!

Maria

*Belén: it is a Spanish Christmas tradition in which the village of Bethlehem (Jerusalem) where Jesus was born is recreated. It recreates the moment when the Three Wise Men visit the baby Jesus in the manger where he was born.
