I arrived to Malaga by obligation (for work), imagine, me a girl from the north of France where the rain have monopoly, had to move to the capital of the sun : sad life! 325 days of sun per year! But in the end we become used to fast to good things!
Becoming used to Malaga is an easy thing! I wanted to share with you the things that make me being in love with this city. No time to be bored, I hope that you are ready!
My perfect day starts before the sun gets up, yes .. I wake up early! It is not easy at first but it is worth it! It is one of the best times of the day, there is nobody in the streets, the air is fresh. I like to go to the beach and sit under the palms to see the sun get up.
Often, I come back to the historic center to take a coffee “con churros” to the Pimpi (the coffee it is more than a religion in this city, you will understand that quickly) and see the sun show up on the Alcazaba and the amphitheatre.
When I finish my coffee, I love getting lost to see the streets come alive. In Malaga the streets change every day (it is a little bit like the stairs of Hogwarts ;)). There is always a new piece of art on a wall, a new poster, a new artist.
By losing you in the streets of the center you will arrive to the Marqués de Larios street (all roads lead to Marqués de Larios street), it is the main street of the city where you will find everything and everybody: street artists, bars, restaurants, shops, itinerant salesman, besides if you want to try “almendras garrapiñadas” (caramelized almonds), you are in the right place.
By going back up Larios street we will arrive to the Manquita, the cathedral of Malaga, if you pass in front of it every day, you will notice new details on the main frontage.
For the afternoon I propose you to follow me to the port and then we can walk from the lighthouse “La Farola” to the “Baños del Carmen” by the “paseo marítimo” through Pompidou center and the ice cream shops of Muelle Uno. We will stop to a “chiringuito” to taste the local speciality the “espeto de sardinas” and local wines.
After that, we will come back to the center by the castel of Gibralfaro to see the sun set and enjoy the uninterrupted view of the city.
After the sun goes down come back in the historic center to understand why I love this city, come to thrive of the night-life, “a tapear” in one of the numerous bars to taste “almejas a la malagueña” , a “porra antequerana” or a “tortilla”. For a better digestion, follow me to the Plaza de la Merced, we will go to the Picasso bar to start the night, there are so many choices! Then let you be carried by the night, you will see that it will already be the hour to return to the beach to see the sun get up
