Hello!

My name is María and I am part of the AIL Madrid team, you probably already know me if you follow us on Instagram or Tiktok.

Studying a language abroad is an amazing experience, especially at Christmas time when Madrid looks more beautiful than ever. That’s why I have been sharing recommendations for the best plans to do in Madrid at Christmas with our students of our Super Special Holiday Course. They all seemed really interested when I told them about Christmas markets in the city.  I think this may be an interesting topic for the blog. Stick around and I will tell you everything about it!

And without further ado, I leave you with my favourite Christmas markets.

Plaza Mayor Christmas market: A classic! Located in one of the most famous squares of Madrid. A place to visit with family and friends, maybe buy a funny hat, and have fun immersed in the spirit of the season. You can visit it until the 6th of January, you won’t be disappointed!

– Christmas Market in Colón: Madrid Arts and Crafts Fair is held here and you can find all kinds of handmade products. It is located on Paseo de Recoletos, between Colón and Cibeles. If you’re looking for Christmas gift ideas, you’ll have plenty of options here, from earrings to pottery.

Madrid Río Christmas Market: although it hasn’t been around for long, it’s well worth a visit. It is located in Madrid Río, behind the Casa del Reloj and next to Matadero. As well as craft stalls, you can try some of Spain’s Christmas sweets. There is no better souvenir of Madrid than a roscón de Reyes. You can enjoy this market until 8 January.

mercadillo de navidad castellaChristmas market in Castellana: This market has been held for several years now, but this year it’s promising!

If you are a fan of the Spanish chef par excellence, great news: you will be able to enjoy Dabiz Muñoz’s Gastroneta at this market. There is also be a stall of the most famous chocolate shop in Madrid: the San Ginés chocolate shop.

But it’s not just about food, there are plenty of beautiful craft stalls to stroll around and do your Christmas shopping in Madrid.

Visiting the city’s Christmas markets, walking through the streets and enjoying the Christmas lights in Madrid is a unique sensation.
