Hello everyone!

How have you welcomed 2022? I couldn’t have had a better time at the New Year’s Eve party. The dinner was great and my picadillo soup was a great success. I was also able to try some typical Spanish Christmas recipes such as the cod with mushrooms that Macarena prepared. The truth is that she is a star cook, if she were to present herself at sveriges mästerkock (Masterchef in Sweden) she would win it for sure.
When we finished dinner, we had grapes -I managed to eat all 12, so this 2022 is gonna be epic- and then we went out to celebrate the new year at “Las Vegas” pub, as I told you in the previous blog, it’s very close to our house and the owner has become a good friend.

The night was fantastic, I met lots of people and got to practice my Spanish with everyone in the pub. The night got more and more interesting by the minute and we even did Karaoke: I sang songs by Nino Bravo and Julio Iglesias, who are two of the most famous singers in Spain. I think that at the moment I am the most Spanish Swede you can find in Malaga.

Besides the karaoke, the owner of the pub had prepared a special New Year’s Eve bingo: he called it “Novibingo “*. I’m not going to deny it, I love playing bingo and I put the finishing touch to the night when I called bingo and won a giant stuffed flamingo. I proudly took it home so I could show it to my daughters on Facetime and you can’t imagine how much they laughed when they heard my anecdotes from that night, and saw the flamingo. They both agree that coming to study Spanish in Malaga was the best thing I could have done this year.

The truth is that I couldn’t have had a better time and without a doubt it was one of the best New Year’s Eves of my life. Since I’ve arrived in Malaga I can’t stop telling anecdotes and super fun experiences, and the experience of spending my first Christmas in Malaga doesn’t end here, because this week is the Three Kings’ Night and I want to go and see the parade that they put on in the centre of Malaga.

I don’t know if you know it, but in Sweden, the person who brings us the presents is Tomte, a little gnome who is in charge of delivering the presents at Christmas. That’s why, when Macarena told me that today there was a big Three Kings parade in Malaga, I was very excited and I decided that I wanted to go and see it. Because I am interested in learning more about the traditions of Christmas in Spain.

The parade will pass through the main streets of Malaga, so I am going to meet up with Macarena and other neighbours to see it together. I am looking forward to greeting Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar and taking lots of sweets.

I wish you a very happy Three Kings’ Eve!

See you next time!

Agnetha

*Novibingo: I think the pub owner made it up, but the name comes from the first syllables of noche and vieja together with the word bingo.
