This Saturday from 16:15, the 265th Clásico match in history will take place in Barcelona, between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. El Clásico dates back more than 100 years, and is known for bringing head-to-head two of the biggest rivals in the football world. Actually, the two teams first met in 1902, while the rivalry itself started later, during the 1928-29 season – the first ever Liga in the history of the Spanish championships. Real Madrid won the first ever match against Barcelona, but it was the Catalans who took the trophy home at the end of that season.

Barcelona is currently in the lead of the incredible series of matches, with 109 victories to 97, plus 58 draws. With an average of 3.3 goals per game, these matches are never to be missed and are some of the most spectacular the world can offer. Barcelona’s Lionel Messi so far holds the title of El Clásico’s greatest striker, scoring 21 goals in total; just ahead of Real’s Di Stefano, who counts 18 to his name.

The stars of the 265th Clásico

This time round is perhaps the most important match of the year, because not only will two major rival teams be facing eachother, but two of the best players on the planet will also be put head-to-head: namely, Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi.

The duel between these living legends is by itself reason enough to make this match absolutely unmissable for fans, but football addicts will also be able to admire world-class players such as Suárez, Benzema, Neymar, Modric, Iniesta, Ramos, Pique and more…

No doubt the rivalry will continue to the bench, where the two coaches are both former players of each club. Zinédine Zidane has been unbeaten during his 30 last matches behind Real Madrid, coming close to the record of 39 matches of invincibility… which is currently held by Luis Enrique – Barcelona coach! For Enrique and FC Barcelona, a win is imperative for a precious 3 points which will allow them to close in on Real Madrid, currently at the top of the Liga. If defeated, Barcelona will instead be lagging behind 9 points – so the winners of the title may also become clear this Saturday!

Real will however have 3 important players absent on Saturday, due to injury: perhaps the lack of Gareth Bale, Álvaro Morata and Toni Kroos may give Barcelona the edge they need.
