Hello, how are you? I hope your first weeks of the year have been great and that in 2022 you will achieve everything you set out to do.

Our start of the year has gone very well. A few days ago Mohan, who is an Indian student doing an intensive Spanish course in Malaga, invited us to celebrate with him the Makar Sankranti festival. It is a celebration in honour of the Sun God, which is very typical in his country. This festival celebrates the winter solstice and the beginning of the days getting longer. It takes place on the 14th of January and Mohan will be bringing traditional Indian food to celebrate this day with us and his colleagues from AIL Malaga. As you can see, we have started the year in a very special way.

Both Mohan and the other students are delighted to be able to study Spanish in Malaga and we would like to share with you some of their favourite reasons:

– Flamenco: whenever our students come to Malaga, they are always interested in the flamenco shows.

Malaga is home to some of the most important flamenco clubs in the country. Moreover, seeing a flamenco show is one of the favourite activities of our Spanish students.

– Andalusian culture: Andalusia is a region with a lot of culture. If you travel to Granada, you can visit the Alhambra. It is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is a unique monument in the world. In Malaga, you will find the museum dedicated to the painter Pablo Picasso who was born and lived most of his life in the city. If you like Andalusian architecture, don’t hesitate and visit Cordoba. In this beautiful city, you can visit one of the most beautiful and best-preserved mosques in the country.

– Super fun activities: all our students tell us that Malaga is the most fun and party city in the world. If you decide to come to this city on the Costa del Sol, you will not stop enjoying yourself and every day you will live a different adventure. We have prepared some amazing excursions such as the route of the Caminito del Rey, the tour lasts about 2 hours and the views are spectacular. Remember to pack comfortable shoes in your suitcase!

– Water sports: If you like surfing  Malaga is the ideal city. Its beaches are great for these sports.

In addition, you’ll find board and equipment rental shops so you don’t have to carry your board in your suitcase. What more could you ask for?

Andalusian gastronomy: gazpacho, tortillita de camarones, cazón en adobo, sardinitas… The typical Andalusian dishes are so good that our kids are absolute fans of Spanish food. Last week they tried the roscón de reyes for the first time and they loved it.

I’m sure that after reading this article you are packing your suitcase and looking for flights to Malaga, but I forgot to tell you one thing, don’t forget to bring your sunglasses and sunscreen, because in Malaga there is an average of 300 days of sunshine a year!

In the next blog, I will tell you about my experience celebrating Makar Sankranti. ¡Hasta la proximal!
