Relative pronouns activity with prepositions and vocabulary
This B2 level Spanish exercise is designed to help students practice the use of relative pronouns with prepositions while expanding their vocabulary related to the working world. The exercise consists of two activities that challenge students to work with different forms of relative structures.
Activity 1: Matching Definitions with Objects
In this exercise, students are presented with a series of definitions of objects, but the definitions are given in no particular order. Each definition contains a relative pronoun with a preposition. The objective is for students to order the phrases correctly and identify the object hidden behind each definition. The selected words for this activity include:
- Nómina (payroll)
- Baja laboral (medical leave)
- Ratón (computer mouse)
- Fotocopiadora (photocopier)
- Reunión (meeting)
- Plantilla (staff)
For example, a definition might be: “Es el documento con el que se registra el sueldo de los trabajadores.” (It’s the document with which workers’ salaries are recorded.) Students need to correctly match this definition with the word “Nómina.”
Activity 2: Completing Definitions and Matching with Images
In the second activity, students are provided with a series of definitions of objects, but the definitions lack relative structures with prepositions. Their task is to complete the definitions and then match them with the corresponding images. This activity reinforces the use of relative pronouns within a specific context.
For instance, a definition might be: “Es una máquina que se utiliza para hacer copias de documentos.” (It’s a machine used to make copies of documents.) Students should complete this definition with the appropriate relative structure: “Es una máquina con la que se utiliza para hacer copias de documentos.”
Benefits of the Exercise:
- Vocabulary Expansion: Students enhance their workplace-related vocabulary.
- Grammar Practice: The exercise reinforces the correct use of relative pronouns with prepositions.
- Critical Thinking: Students must think logically to match definitions with objects and images.
- Contextual Learning: Relative structures are applied within meaningful workplace contexts.
This B2 level exercise provides a valuable opportunity for students to improve their understanding and application of relative pronouns with prepositions while simultaneously building their vocabulary related to the working world. It promotes language proficiency by combining grammar and vocabulary practice in a practical and engaging manner.
