When we arrive in a foreign country, we either know few people, or sometimes even no one. Naturally, during a stay abroad, we will meet new people. The first exchange that takes place is where we will introduce ourselves and be introduced to others. It is therefore essential to know how to present yourself.
Learn this simple vocabulary to be comfortable when you first meet people!

1– The identity / La identidad

Let’s start with the most important, it’s the name that makes each person unique. We inherit a first name and a name when we are born, but from our experience, our name can be shared or changed. Both will be the first things we share to a person during a new meeting.

To be called / LLarmarse
To be called (surname) / Apellidarse
Surname / Apellido
First name / Nombre
Nickname / Apodo
Mister / Señor
Mrs / Señora
Miss / Señorita

2 – Gender / Genero

The gender of a person is the first thing you notice when you see somebody, but this vocabulary will still serve you to define the gender of the person according to their age.

Little boy / Niño
Little Girl / Niña
Boy / Chico
Girl / Chica
Man/men / Hombre(s)
Woman/Women / Mujer(es)

3 – Age / Edad

When we meet a new person, the most intrusive question that everyone comes to ask is that of age, but do not be so fearful, now you will have the vocabulary for it!

To have / Tener
The age / La edad
Birth date / Fecha de nacimiento
The birthday / El cumpleaños
Young / Joven
Old / Viejo(a)
Older / Mayor(a), anciano(a)
More than *age* ≠ Less than *age* / Mayor de edad ≠ Minor de edad
Childhood / La infancia
Teenage / La adolescencia

4- The family / La familia

The family is a group of people united by a relation of kinship or alliance, the number of people belonging to a family can grow and decrease. Indeed, we do not know what life holds for us. You will now be able to define a large number of family members as well as the relation you have with them.

Single / Soltero(a)
Married / Casado(a)
To be engaged / Prometido(a)
To be divorced / Divorciado(a)
To be separated / Separado(a)
The parents / Los padres

Grand-father / El abuelo
Grand-mother / La abuela

5 – The address / Dirección

We all know an address, whether it is a house, an apartment, a locality, a café, or even an example bar. Going somewhere interesting can lead to discovering beautiful things, and meeting new people. It is therefore important to understand and to know how to share an address.

To leave / Vivir

In the outskirts / En las afueras
