This week I was reading a very interesting Linkedin post about New Year’s resolutions. The post talked about the most popular goals: get in shape, learn Spanish or quit smoking and exposed that it was very common that these goals were not fulfilled.

I don’t know if this has happened to you, but I felt very identified with this post. The truth is that whenever the year begins I always make resolutions that I know I myself know I will not be able to fulfill. For example, last year I made a goal to train to run the San Silvestre marathon with my best friend. I don’t know which of us was more motivated with the idea, I’ll just tell you that we went out a couple of times to run and we never did it again.

Since this year I want to achieve my New Year’s goals, I’ve decided to gather some information and share with you some tips that I’m going to follow to make 2022 the year I reach all my goals. If you are interested, keep reading because I’m sure it will help you.

What are the points to keep in mind to achieve your goals?

It is advisable to set a specific objective: if you plan to learn a language, you should think about what language you want to study, this way you will have a concrete objective and it will be easier to pursue it.

Your goal should be measurable: by setting a quantifiable objective, you will be able to keep track and be sure that you are achieving it. For example, if your goal is like mine and you want to run a marathon. You will have to set a training time each day that you can progressively increase.

It has to be achievable: it is not much use setting a goal of passing the DELE exam in 2 weeks if you have never decided to study Spanish before. To do this, you must set realistic goals that you can actually achieve.

It must have an end date: by setting an end date, you will commit yourself to achieving your goals and it will help you stay more motivated. For example, if you decide to prepare to run a marathon, you should be very aware of when that marathon is going to take place. You can check on a calendar the time left for that day and so you can measure what you have left to keep training to the maximum.

With these points, I already have clear the steps I have to follow to stay motivated and next year I will be able to run the marathon. In fact, I am going to recommend my friend Daniel to read this blog entry because next year we will run the San Silvestre.

I hope you liked these tips to achieve your New Year’s resolutions and that you achieve all your goals for next year.
