I’m Chris Haworth, and I’m the director and founder of AIL Español. I’d like to take a moment to tell you briefly about our Spanish language school, its origins and history, the importance of quality in our courses and why so many students choose AIL schools to learn Spanish.
It all started as a year abroad in 2000 and it was there that I fell in love with Spain at first sight: the warmth of the people, the outdoor lifestyle, the desire to enjoy life, the beautiful villages full of history and architectural gems, the gastronomy and, of course, the beauty of the language.
Over time, visits from friends and family became more frequent. I loved nothing more than showing them my new home and discovering its wonderful hidden treasures.
Without a doubt, I had discovered my passion: Spain, its culture and its language were what I had been searching for all my life.
In 2006, AIL Español was founded in the heart of the Spanish capital, warmly welcoming each and every international student who immersed themselves in the Spanish language and culture with us.
By 2016, AIL Español was established as the leading Spanish language school in Spain. Our students wanted to replicate their experience with us in other Spanish cities. Without hesitation, I decided on Malaga. Its fantastic beaches, historic centre and wonderful bars and restaurants make this city a fantastic choice for an unforgettable experience of learning Spanish in Spain.
Every year our school on the Costa del Sol welcomes more than 500 students eager for knowledge and adventure. We are proud to say that each and every one of them has an enriching language and cultural immersion experience with AIL.
Although over the years it would have been easy to lose this family feeling, given our growth and expansion with new schools, today I am proud to say that every student, new or old, who walks through our door immediately senses the sense of community and family that characterises us at AIL Español…..
I know first hand the feeling of arriving in a new country. Those butterflies in your stomach when learning a new language in a new city. For this reason, I have created a school that hopes to do everything possible to make your experience and transition in Spain as enjoyable and enriching as possible. As an academy, we are internationally inclined and flexible with our students.
One of my main goals is to make sure that there is a course that fits your level and meets your needs perfectly, as well as providing you with a full and happy life here in Spain. My greatest wish for AIL Español is that we can share with you my feelings and experiences of coming to this country. Falling in love with Spain, the pride of learning a new language in a new country and the joy that comes from knowing and understanding the Spanish culture.

We want our students, in addition to the knowledge acquired during their Spanish language stay in Malaga, to take with them memories of their experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Very cliché I know, but my relationship with Spain really has been love at first sight. What started as being a year abroad back in 2000 has turned into 20 plus years of fascination and intoxication – the warm and sometimes moody people, the outdoor living, the desire to enjoy life, the endless hidden villages and wonderful scenery, the history, the diverse cuisine and of course the beautiful language.
My friends and relatives from far and wide flocked to see me. Nothing gave me greater pleasure than to share Spain’s marvellous treasures. Over time, friends of friends started to come as the word spread.
I had discovered my passion and felt so fulfilled; Spain, its culture and its language. I knew what I wanted to do with my life
In 2006, the first AIL Spanish school opened in Madrid opening its very humble doors, its wide arms and loving heart to international visitors wanting to learn Spanish and immerse themselves in the Spanish culture.
Over the next decade, student numbers grew, we moved to bigger premises, and we received the prestigious Cervantes accreditation.
By 2016, AIL Madrid was recognised as a leading Spanish school in Spain. Our students wanted to replicate their experience with us in other parts of Spain. Málaga’s fantastic beaches, historic centre, wonderful bars and restaurants and Andalusian charm was the obvious choice.
AIL Español has touched the lives of thousands of people through Spanish and continues to do so with the same amount of enthusiasm as on our very first day. Thanks to our drive, we have become the go-to Spanish language school in Spain. We could not feel more grateful.
